The past year has been a whirlwind ride for Cubs superstar Kris Bryant. He’s just 24 years old, but since last April, he has made his Major League debut, played in an All-Star Game, carried Chicago to the NLCS and won the NL Rookie of the Year Award. Oh, and did we mention that after all this he got engaged to his high school sweetheart and went swimming with sharks?

Throughout last season, I was one of those parents who regularly complained. I wasn’t over-the-top at all, and tried to act as courteous and professional as I could. That said, I expressed my feelings whenever I thought it was necessary. And, I thought it was necessary quite often. I shared my thoughts on how I didn’t care for the younger kids using a pitching machine, how I didn’t think it was right to ask parents to fundraise on top of the registration fee, how the concession stand didn’t include more healthy options, how the grass needed to get cut more often, and how the older uniforms should be replaced.
teixera152Grand Junction (Colo.) Little League Challenger Division® Volunteer Buddy Ryan Teixeira Facing Battle Against Leukemia

Ryan Teixeira, a baseball player at Colorado Mesa University who served as a volunteer buddy for the Grand Junction (Colo.) Little League Challenger Division® team at the 2016 Little League Baseball® World Series Challenger Exhibition Game, is currently facing a challenge of his own as he was recently diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia following his trip to South Williamsport this August. For Mr. Teixeira, a native of Pismo Beach, Calif., the diagnosis marks the second form of cancer he has had to battle in the last two years.

The Little League Challenger Division® provides thousands of intellectually and physically disabled children with the opportunity to play Little League® in a fun, social environment. Over the last decade, one of the Challenger Division’s primary champions has been Dr. Darrell Burnett, whose tenure as a member of the Little League Board of Directors is coming to a close in November 2016.

Less than a month after playing in the 2016 Little League Challenger Division® Exhibition Game in South Williamsport, Pa., against Colorado District 1 Little League Challenger Division (Grand Junction, Colo.), the Camp Hill (Pa.) Little League Challenger Baseball Team was invited by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry and U.S. Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania to come to Washington, D.C., for a tour of the U.S. Capitol.

Following another wonderful summer season and the 2016 Little League Baseball® World Series, The World of Little League®: Peter J. McGovern Museum and Official Store will be closed for painting and other maintenance starting on Monday, September 26, and reopen on Saturday, October 1 at 9 a.m.
